A Memorable Adventure

A Memorable Adventure
We were dangling from the highest cliff in the world. If we let go, we were sure to find ourselves plunging to depths and heights never ever fathomed. None of us wanted to be the first to do so. We made a firm mind not to let go, it was going to be a tough time for both of us, holding on to the rocky crag, but we didn’t have an option. There were rough winds blowing through the air, and even a torrent of rain falling on us. Everything in the world seemed to be pitted against us, but we made a firm mind to maintain our positions on the cliff. There was even a mountain-lion roaming over us on the cliff whose presence diminished all thoughts of climbing on the cliff.

We were in the game together. We had dared to venture out of the security of our homes, and in a small way, we had bargained for the trouble. An entirely different story would have been scripted had we chosen the security of our homes, and not ventured out. However, there is no way one can ever remain within secure walls and yet taste all adventures life has to offer. Most of life’s adventures are to be experienced only when one steps out of the comforts of one’s home. We did consider an option of not venturing out for adventures, but life was going to be quite inert and boring in this case.

All these thoughts crossed our minds while we were holding on to what was the only hope of our being alive. We had to consider the question of being alive before everything else. Questions of comfort and elegance were secondary ones, not put up before us at that moment, they were irrelevant; there were questions of how we were going to manage to climb up to the surface. It was going to be a long time before we did it, we knew it. I did wonder if it was going to be long enough to give us some food for thought when we finally got to the top, and short enough to give us enough time to enjoy our stint at the top of the mountain when we finally got there.

Climbing to the top of the mountain was going to be quite easy if we got out of the present predicament that saw us dangling from the cliff. In a small way, this had become the aim of our lives. We had to get into a comfortable posture before it was too late. The sun was headed for the west at a rapid pace and it was get quite dark in a couple of hours. We were going to find dangling in the position we were quite uncomfortable. The world around us was headed for a dark and deep pit. The night was going to be a long, dark and cold one, we knew. It was going to be all the more uncomfortable for us.

We considered all options of a safe exit from the precarious position we were in, and finding none, we braced ourselves to face the night. The mountain-lion prowling on the cliff let out a couple of roars while the twilight set in only to proclaim its dominance over its territory. We tried to snuggle closer to each other, but this wasn’t a feasible option. Both of us were losing our hold on the cliff, and the bottom of the abyss below the cliff crept nearer and nearer to the top with each passing second.

There were a whole lot of rocks and crags below us, which cancelled the option of letting go and dropping down. Tears of desperation and exasperation were on their way to the world outside us. There was a feeling of weightlessness created by a fall through a great height building up within each of us. We felt like we were on the moon, but there wasn’t any pleasure in it. The biggest issue at hand was delivery from the situation we found ourselves in.

We were out for an adventure on a range of mountains when I had fallen off a cliff. I had managed to hold on to a crag, but I had to hold on to stay alive. I wanted to live another day because I felt sure each fresh day of my life was to bring fresh adventures for me now that she was with me. life had suddenly become worth living. Since the two of us were to be equal partakers of all joy and sorrow, she too had jumped off the cliff and was holding on to a crag to keep herself alive, like me. I found it difficult to understand why she should put her life in a peril only to affiliate with me, but she was dangling from the cliff with me regardless of the fact that there wasn’t a hope of our survival.

I wonder if it can be called love. It would have been a lot better had she managed to run off before the mountain-lion made an appearance on the cliff, but as it is, she chose an entirely different life for herself. She didn’t know a mountain-lion was to be there, or she would certainly have run away for help while she could. Situations in life are seldom predictable; this is what makes life all the more exciting, but this also sucks out all excitement out of life if the dose is a long one.

We remained dangling from the cliff for quite a long time, but eventually, the mountain-lion found another place comfortable to roam around, and we managed to get on top.

The adventure is to be recorded as a memorable one.
